Many local clinics price “semaglutide” or “tirzepatide” without saying whether it is the FDA-approved brand or a compounded version. Compounded GLP-1s are not FDA-approved. Since the national shortages ended (tirzepatide in December 2024, semaglutide in February 2025), FDA has said pharmacies generally may not compound copies of these drugs, and in April 2026 it proposed further restrictions. Before you pay, ask any clinic: Which product is it, which pharmacy fills it, and is it the FDA-approved brand?
The Wegovy pen is $349 a month through NovoCare Pharmacy (new patients pay $199 for each of the first two fills of the starting doses through December 31, 2026). The Wegovy pill starts at $149 a month.
Through LillyDirect, Zepbound is $299 a month for 2.5 mg, $399 for 5 mg and $449 for 7.5–15 mg when you refill on time.
Among FDA-approved options, the Wegovy pill and Foundayo start at $149 a month self-pay. On Medicare, eligible patients pay $50 a fill through the GLP-1 Bridge.
Compounded GLP-1s are not FDA-approved. Since the shortages ended, FDA has said pharmacies generally may not compound copies of semaglutide or tirzepatide, with narrow exceptions. Ask any provider exactly which product you’d receive.
