Common questions
Should I see a dietitian on a GLP-1?
It helps. Eating less can mean too little protein, fiber and fluid. A registered dietitian can set protein targets (often 1.0–1.6 g per kg a day) and plan meals you can tolerate. Many insurance plans cover medical nutrition therapy; ask yours. Try our protein calculator.
Why strength training on a GLP-1?
Part of the weight lost on a GLP-1 can be muscle. Resistance training two to three times a week, with enough protein, helps you keep it. A DEXA scan shows whether it’s working.
What labs do I need for GLP-1 treatment?
Prescribers commonly check A1C, a metabolic panel (CMP), lipids and sometimes thyroid tests before and during treatment. You can order many of these yourself for about $39–$59 each at Quest or Labcorp, but your prescriber decides what’s needed.
Are there free weight-loss programs?
Yes. CDC-recognized National Diabetes Prevention Programs (often through the YMCA or health systems) are free or low-cost for many people and are covered by Medicare for eligible members.
